Grief Proxy

$980.00

‘Grief Proxy’ oil on panel. 12” x 9”.

After navigating an extended period of burnout, Andie used the framework of a backcountry expedition in BC to explore methods of healing trauma through creative practice. The artist started by embodying and visualizing, then sketching and drafting multiple figure poses that expressed their suffering - then a collaborator agreed to model one of these poses live in a semi-public environment. While directing and adjusting the pose and recording details en plein air, the artist was able to conscientiously engage with a living, cultivated symbol of their own grief. Concurrently, the model reflected within the posture and shared feelings that the performance triggered, communicating their associations and limits throughout the process. In this collaborative experience, this painting became the container for mutually exploring and healing trauma through trust, harm reduction, and creative practice.
