In Canada, winter can provide a false mental reprieve from the “seasonal” tragedy of inclement weather. These escalating conditions, brought on by climate crisis and exacerbated by the gross misguidance and priorities of our provincial and federal governments, lead to seasons punctuated by extreme heat and cascading wildfires.
Internationally, younger generations grow older to witness each year become hotter and hotter. They start to hear an old god in their ear.
In this painting, the viewer observes a winter landscape that embodies the existential fear they feel year round – the foreground lit red by a metaphysical fire, burning through the snow in what was once our safest months.
